Quick GenieMat RST FAQ Summary

  • Where to Use It: GenieMat RST is used in floor assemblies to reduce both footfall impact noise and airborne sound transfer, especially over concrete subfloors or with resilient ceilings.
  • Choosing Thickness: If your ceiling below uses resilient clips or channel, choose RST02 or RST05. Without resilient ceilings, the thicker the underlayment, the better the performance.
  • Compatible Flooring Types: Works under tile, stone, hardwood, vinyl, laminate, carpet, and more.
  • Performance Expectations: Results depend on the full floor‐ceiling assembly. Send us your layer details (subfloor, ceiling, finish) for a custom estimate.
  • Rubber vs. Cork or Foam: GenieMat RST’s recycled rubber delivers much stronger damping. Cork or typical foam offer about one-third the performance.
  • HOA or High STC Requirements: Many HOAs demand high STC/IIC ratings. Beware: achieving ratings much higher than 55–60 STC/IIC usually requires decoupled ceilings beyond GenieMat’s capabilities alone.
