GenieMat FAS and GenieMat FAS3 are premium rubber flooring adhesives designed for use with GenieMat rubber underlayments, including GenieMat RST and GenieMat FF. These adhesives securely bond the underlayment to the subfloor and the finished flooring to the underlayment, ensuring superior sound control, durability, and long-term performance.
In general:
- GenieMat FAS is best for wood flooring installations.
- GenieMat FAS3 is ideal for vinyl, rubber, and linoleum flooring applications.
GenieMat® FAS – For Wood and Bamboo Flooring
GenieMat FAS is a single-component, 100% solids, polymer-based adhesive formulated for interior installations of solid and engineered wood, prefinished or unfinished hardwood, bamboo, and parquet flooring.
Key features include:
- Superior moisture resistance — becomes waterproof when fully cured
- Crack isolation up to 1/8 inch
- Solvent-free and isocyanate-free with near-zero VOCs (0.5 g/L)
- Low odor, nonflammable, and compliant with all indoor air quality standards
- Strong early grab with a durable, resilient bond as the adhesive cross-links
GenieMat FAS offers excellent moisture control, stability, and sound isolation for wood and bamboo flooring over GenieMat RST underlayments.
GenieMat® FAS3 - For Vinyl, Linoleum, and Rubber Flooring
GenieMat FAS3 is a firm-set, pressure-sensitive adhesive formulated for quick, reliable installation of vinyl, linoleum, rubber, and similar flooring materials. Its aggressive fast-grab formula allows for light foot traffic immediately after installation.
Key features include:
- High moisture tolerance and low odor for safe indoor use
- Extremely low VOCs, solvent-free, and isocyanate-free
- Strong plasticizer migration resistance, ideal for vinyl-based flooring
- Not a moisture vapor barrier — does not prevent moisture-related damage
GenieMat FAS3 replaced the GenieMat FAS2 model in early 2023. All existing commercial specifications for FAS2 should now be updated to FAS3.
Installation
When installing grouted or fully adhered flooring systems, the GenieMat RST acoustic underlayment must be fully bonded to the subfloor using either GenieMat FAS or GenieMat FAS3 adhesive. The correct trowel size and notch pattern will vary depending on the flooring type and project conditions. Below are essential installation guidelines for achieving optimal adhesion and soundproofing performance.
General Installation Tips
- Lay carefully: Gently place the GenieMat RST into the wet adhesive — do not drop it, as this can trap air pockets beneath the surface.
- Spread evenly: At seam areas, spread the adhesive perpendicular (90°) to the seam to prevent excess adhesive from oozing upward.
- Avoid ridges or puddles: Ensure the adhesive is spread smoothly for even contact and stability.
- Roll the floor: Use a 30–50 lb roller within 45 minutes of placement to ensure proper adhesive transfer. Overlap roller passes by 50% to guarantee uniform coverage.
GenieMat FAS Installation
- Type: Immediate wet-set installation
- Working time: 60 minutes
- Rolling: Use a 100 lb roller for full adhesive transfer
- Cure time:
- Light traffic after 16 hours
- Heavy traffic after 24 hours
- Sanding or finishing after 72 hours
GenieMat FAS3 Installation
- Type: Suitable for semi-wet-set or pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) installations
- Rolling: Use a 100 lb, three-section roller to ensure full bond contact
- Cure time:
- Semi-wet-set: Light traffic after 12 hours
- PSA installation: Light traffic allowed immediately
- Heavy traffic after 24 hours
- Rolling loads after 48 hours
Additional Adhesive Tips
- Allow the adhesive to flash off before installing GenieMat RST. Flash-off occurs when the adhesive changes color from off-white to light yellow and becomes tacky to the touch.
- Perform a small test area to gauge the flash-off time based on the temperature and humidity of the installation room.
- Once ready, roll GenieMat RST into the adhesive layer and use a heavy roller to activate the pressure-sensitive bond, ensuring full adhesion and long-term durability.
These installation steps help ensure a strong, even bond and maintain the acoustic performance of your GenieMat RST sound control flooring system.
