GenieMat® FAS / FAS3 Flooring Adhesive

GenieMat® FAS and FAS3 rubber flooring adhesive is recommended for projects with GenieMat® rubber underlayment to adhere the GenieMat® RST to the sub-floor as well as the finished floor to the GenieMat® RST or GenieMat® FF. There are two styles of GenieMat® FAS, the GenieMat® FAS and GenieMat® FAS3. Most hardwood applications are best with FAS while most vinyl and linoleum applications are best with FAS3.

GenieMat® FAS

GenieMat® FAS is a single component 100% solids, cross-linking, polymer-based adhesive formulated for interior installation of all thicknesses of solid/engineered wood, pre-finished and unfinished wood, bamboo and dry-back wood parquet flooring. GenieMat® FAS also has superior concrete moisture inhibition capability (becoming waterproof when fully cured) and provides isolation for cracks up to 1/8” wide. GenieMat® FAS is solvent and isocyanate free, has negligible (0.5 g/L) VOC content, contains no hazardous chemicals as per OSHA Regulation CFR 1910.1200 and is a nonflammable, low odor adhesive that meets all federal, state and local government indoor air quality regulations. This specially formulated adhesive has good early strength buildup for immediate grab and gradually builds into a tenacious but resilient bond as the chemicals in the adhesive cross-link.

GenieMat® FAS3

GenieMat® FAS3 is a firm-set transitional pressure sensitive adhesive with a aggressive fast grab formulation allowing it to handle light foot traffic immediately. It is solvent and isocyanate free adhesive with a high moisture tolerance and extremely low odor and VOCs. It also has excellent plasticizer migration resistance allowing for installation of a wide variety of vinyl based products. GenieMat® FAS3 will not form a moisture vapor barrier and will not protect flooring from moisture damage.

GenieMat® FAS3 has now replaced GenieMat® FAS2 and will be used for all orders of FAS2 that are submitted. The specification was changed by the manufacturer at the start of 2023. All commercial specifications for GenieMat® FAS2 should now be considered GenieMat® FAS3 moving forward.

When using grouted or fully adhered finish floor materials, the GenieMat® RST must be fully adhered to the substrate using either the GenieMat® FAS/FAS3. The trowel size and notch will vary depending on application. Here are some general installation tips when using flooring adhesives:

1. Carefully lay the material into the wet adhesive. Do not let the material fall because this will trap air beneath the material.
2. Spread the adhesive. At seam area, spread the adhesive at 90 degrees to seam to prevent excessive adhesive oozing up to the surface of the material.
3. Never leave adhesive ridges or puddles as they may affect the above material.
4. Use a 30 to 50 pound roller to roll over the floor within 45 minutes to ensure proper transfer of adhesive. Overlap each pass of the roller by 50% of the previous pass to ensure that the floor is properly rolled.

GenieMat FAS

Immediate wet set installation. 60 minute working time. Use a 100 lb roller and allow 16 hours before light traffic, 24 hours before heavy traffic and 72 hours before sanding.

GenieMat FAS3

Use for Semi-Wet-Set or PSA Installations. Use a 100lb 3-section roller to ensure proper adhesive transfer. Allow for 12 hours before light traffic during Semi-Wet Set installations. PSA installations can allow light foot traffic immediately. Heavy traffic can be allowed after 24 hours and rolling loads can be allowed after 48 hours for either Semi-Wet-Set or PSA installations.

INSTALLATION TIPS

Flooring adhesive must 'flash-off' before it is ready for the underlayment to be installed. You can easily identify the point of flash-off by allowing the adhesive to change from its off-white color to a darker yellow (should be tacky to the touch). Trowel a small test area and time it to get a general idea of how long it takes for the FAS2/FAS3 to flash-off in the installation room.

Once the FAS is ready, roll the GenieMat RST into the adhesive layer and use a heavy roller across the GenieMat RST to activate the pressure sensitive adhesive.

The square footage coverage per pail will vary depending on where and how it is applied. The estimates below are considered minimums for the recommended trowel size.
