Product Use

The PDS Rubber Door Seal is a high-performance perimeter soundproofing seal designed for installation on either the door stop or door jamb. When the door closes against the PDS Rubber, its triple-fin acoustic design collapses to form a dead air space inside the seal—blocking airborne noise and improving overall sound isolation.

For maximum soundproofing, two PDS Rubber seals can be installed to create a dual-seal system. This setup produces a larger air gap between the seals, increasing STC performance and ensuring a complete perimeter seal, even in the corners.

The soft rubber construction compresses easily, allowing the door to close smoothly with minimal pressure while maintaining an airtight acoustic seal.

For solid core or solid wood doors, a single PDS Rubber Door Seal is sufficient and should be installed directly on the door jamb. For high-STC or professional isolation doors, using two sets of PDS Rubber seals delivers near zero sound loss and industry-leading sound isolation performance.

Installation

Each PDS Rubber Door Seal includes complete manufacturer installation instructions, ensuring proper fit and maximum soundproofing performance. Below is a brief overview of the installation process.

The PDS Rubber is a self-adhesive (peel-and-stick) seal that can be applied directly to the door stop or jamb to create a continuous acoustic perimeter seal. For dual-seal installations, leave a small gap between each row of PDS Rubber to form a dead air space, enhancing overall sound isolation.

At the corners where the top and side pieces meet, you can either miter the corners or interlock the triple fins. Interlocking the fins is recommended, it simplifies installation and prevents incorrect cutting of the seal.

Before applying, make sure the door stop or jamb surface is clean, dry, and free of fresh paint or stain (allow at least one week of curing time). Once installed, the adhesive will reach full bonding strength within 24 hours.

Refer to the installation diagram below for guidance on positioning a single PDS Rubber Seal on the jamb near the door stop for optimal soundproofing performance.

Measuring

The PDS Rubber Door Seal is supplied in a 21 foot roll, providing enough material to cover a standard 8 foot door or smaller.

To confirm the correct fit, measure the width of your door jamb and the height of both vertical sides, then add those measurements together. Round up to the nearest foot to ensure the 21-foot roll will fully cover your door opening.

This roll length is ideal for most residential, studio, and commercial soundproof door installations, providing complete perimeter coverage for maximum acoustic performance.

Performance

Independent sound testing has shown that using two sets of PDS Rubber Door Seals provides performance equal to or better than large, adjustable door stop systems. When installed correctly, the dual-seal design creates a large dead air space between seals, significantly improving sound isolation and ensuring complete corner sealing—the most common weak point in other perimeter seal systems.

Through testing, we’ve found that seal size is not the key factor in performance. Instead, the quality of the rubber, the ease of installation, and the seal’s ability to maintain full contact around the entire door perimeter are what truly determine results.

Using one set instead of two will reduce performance by approximately 1–3 STC points, assuming the door slab is rated above STC 40. This small drop is similar to what occurs when using heavy-duty adjustable door stops.

A solid core or solid wood door typically rates between STC 25 and 30 when fully sealed. To maintain this level of performance, we recommend two sets of PDS Rubber Door Seals per door. For standard hollow-core doors, a single set is sufficient to achieve effective perimeter sealing and improved noise control.
