The GenieMat FIS acoustic isolation pad is a permanently resilient gasket designed to reduce sound and vibration transfer through top and bottom plate framing. It is ideal for use with wood or steel framing installed over concrete or wood subfloors. Unlike fiberglass-based products, GenieMat FIS is made from durable rubber that is water-resistant, mold-proof, and built for long-term performance.
Using GenieMat FIS pads above and below wall plates ensures that other acoustic materials, such as resilient sound clips or Green Glue Compound, perform at their highest potential. Each pad is sized to fit standard 2x4 framing but can also be used with 2x6 bottom plates for larger wall assemblies.
The GenieMat FIS is a trusted solution for soundproof wall construction, helping achieve maximum STC and IIC ratings in both residential and commercial buildings.
Installation
- Measure and cut: Roll out the GenieMat FIS acoustic isolation pad to match the length of the bottom or top plate. Cut it to size using a razor knife.
- Position the pad: Place the GenieMat FIS where the plate framing will be installed, then set the framing plate directly on top of the pad.
- If using GenieMat FIS Bushings: drill holes up to ¾ inch in diameter every 16 to 24 inches through the plate. Do not drill into the subfloor. Penetrating the rubber layer is acceptable.
- Secure the framing: Fasten the plate to the framing with the GenieMat FIS in between. The FIS Bushing isolates the screw head from the framing, preventing direct vibration transfer.
- Installation options: The GenieMat FIS can be installed using screws or a polyurethane-based adhesive, depending on project requirements.
