The QuietBox recessed lighting soundproofing cover is designed to isolate IC-rated recessed lights and restore the soundproofing performance of your ceiling. It is compatible with nearly all lighting brands and housing styles. Every untreated recessed light can reduce your ceiling’s performance by 1–2 STC points, depending on the number of lights and the overall ceiling size. This loss occurs because each light replaces part of the drywall mass that provides sound isolation.
The QuietBox solves this by enclosing the entire light housing and sealing the box to the back of the finished drywall layer, restoring the lost mass and preventing sound leaks. For standard drywall ceilings and resilient ceilings, install the QuietBox using a 2x framing member or similar support, or our IsoStore Corner Brackets, which are 6 inches long and engineered to preserve both resilience and structural stability.
Installing the QuietBox around your IC-rated recessed lights allows your ceiling to achieve its full STC and IIC ratings, maintaining maximum sound isolation and performance.
Safe and Code-Compliant Construction
The interior of the QuietBox is finished with 5/8-inch Type X drywall and sealed using a UL-rated acoustical sealant. These materials meet building and electrical fire code requirements, ensuring safe contact with recessed lighting housings. While the QuietBox does not carry a dedicated UL certification, it is constructed with UL-approved components and engineered for reliable, code-compliant installation in both residential and commercial applications.
Installation
The QuietBox recessed lighting soundproofing cover can be installed in both resilient ceilings and fixed drywall ceilings using IsoStore Corner Brackets. For fixed drywall ceilings, you can install the QuietBox using 2x framing members or equivalent structural supports without any loss in performance.

Customizing The Size Of The QuietBox
If the QuietBox height exceeds the depth of your ceiling joists, it can be trimmed to fit. Simply position the QuietBox on its side and cut it to size using a table saw, ensuring clean, even edges. When adjusting the height, always allow at least ½ inch of clearance above the recessed light housing to maintain safe spacing for IC-rated fixtures. This flexibility allows the QuietBox to adapt to a variety of ceiling depths and lighting configurations, ensuring both proper fit and maximum sound isolation performance.

Performance
The QuietBox recessed lighting soundproofing cover has been sound tested to demonstrate zero loss in ceiling performance when properly installed over recessed light housings. In comparison, untreated recessed lights typically cause a loss of 1–2 STC points, depending on the number of fixtures and the total ceiling area. This loss occurs because each light removes a portion of the ceiling’s drywall mass, reducing its ability to block sound.
When installed correctly, the QuietBox restores that lost mass, allowing your ceiling to achieve the same STC and IIC ratings as an assembly built with triple-layer drywall and damping compound.
Competing products, such as Tenmat recessed light covers, cannot maintain full sound isolation performance because their lightweight materials do not replace the mass of the missing drywall. The QuietBox, by contrast, is engineered to match and exceed drywall mass, ensuring complete sound isolation and maximum acoustic performance.
