IsoDoor SD
AVAILABLE IN CUSTOM SIZES UP TO 42" WIDE AND 96" TALL
View our Product FAQ for answers to common questions about our line of IsoDoors.
Our proprietary and fully sound tested IsoDoor SD will achieve an STC and OITC rating appropriate for most projects. The IsoDoor SD is well suited for any wall with an STC rating of 55 or lower. The IsoDoor SD is generally used in assemblies with standard framed walls with Green Glue Compound/MLV, resilient channel, and/or staggered stud framing.
The standard size for our IsoDoor SD is 36” wide and 80” tall. This is a custom door that can be built in a size anywhere from 24" to 42" wide and 60" to 96" tall. With a slab thickness of only 1-3/4” and a standard backset of 2-3/4”, the IsoDoor SD fits any standard door handle. We do recommend solid stainless steel handles to stand up to the weight of the door and pressure of the door seals, which is why we recommend the purchase of INOX TL4 with our IsoDoor SD, available here: https://isohardware.com/products/tl4-series-tubular-lock. The weight of the IsoDoor SD is 230 pounds, about 130 pounds more than a solid interior door core. Each sound deadening interior door arrives pre-hung with a jamb to match your wall depth, up to 8" included in the price (deeper jamb depths available on request for an additional charge). All perimeter seals are included with a fully mortised automatic door bottom, acoustic threshold, and rubber perimeter seal system. The only component not included is the door handle itself.
Our line of IsoDoors are designed and manufactured from start to finish by IsoStore. We offer a full year warranty on workmanship and materials from the date the sound deadening door is received.

Installation of our doors require at least two people. The steps involved with installing a sound door are very similar to installing a standard door. Careful attention must be paid to the rubber perimeter seals and adjustment of the automatic door bottom to achieve the full STC ratings achieved in our lab testing. Each IsoDoor SD will ship with a full installation guide and receiving instructions.
We would recommend installing the IsoDoor SD or IsoDoor HD doors as interior doors only. If an exterior installation is required, use a quality spar urethane sealer and paint with a quality exterior paint on all 6 sides.
DOOR SEAL DESIGN
Our door seals create dead air space and redundancies allowing for an easy installation with more room for error. Because of this, performance from our lab tests are easily replicable in the field. Other isolation door manufacturers have bulky seals that appear to install easily, but often create major deficiencies in the corners and will require adjustment over time.
DOOR HANDLES
We do recommend solid stainless steel handles to stand up to the weight of the door and pressure of the door seals. For this, we recommend INOX brand handles for our IsoDoor HD, SD, and V. These are quality stainless steel handles inside and out. This is important when installed in an opening with heavy doors, especially in our HD models. You can purchase them from us on our site here: isohardware.com/products/tl4-series-tubular-lock.

The IsoDoor SD was sound tested as an operable individual door at the most accurate acoustics lab in the United States using the most recent ASTM standards. A summary of the results for the operable individual door tests can be found in the product specs download. We have also completed independent sound tests of communicating assemblies using our IsoDoor SD with our IsoDoor HD and IsoDoor V. The results of these tests are available upon request.
COMPARING PERFORMANCE
Unfortunately, the accuracy and consistency of STC tests varies greatly depending on the lab and the year testing was completed. The majority of testing we have found from competitors is no more recent than the mid-1990′s with some testing back to the 1960's. To make it worse, many of the tests were done in the manufacturer's own facilities in labs that cannot accurately measure the ranges tested.
Because of this, a competitor’s STC claims cannot be compared head to head with our STC results. We tested our line of IsoDoor in 2012 in an acoustic lab known as the most accurate lab in the United States. Our ratings may appear lower than some of the highest ratings you will find, but we are confident that our STC numbers will meet or exceed the competition and can be duplicated both in the lab and in the field.
To compare our doors with other manufacturers, we would suggest using simply the weight of a door per square foot and overall thickness of the door. Our IsoDoor SD weighs 11.5 pounds per square feet, is 1-3/4" thick, and has no resonance issues (referring to the STC contour line in the test). Compare this information alone and you will have a more accurate understanding of how their door compares to ours.
COMMUNICATING DOORS
We suggest creating a communicating door assembly to increase isolation significantly beyond the IsoDoor H. Our tests show STC/OITC ratings with the IsoDoor HD as high as 65/50 which meets or exceeds double stud walls. Combining the IsoDoor SD with the IsoDoor HD or combining the IsoDoor HD with the IsoDoor HD LF will help avoid common resonance issues that occur when two similar materials are installed in the same assembly. Two IsoDoor SD can be used in the same communicating assembly with a slight change in core design to avoid these resonance issues.
